Power Permissions

TELEPATHY: Jean is, at this point, a ridiculously powerful telepath. She senses the people around her by default; tuning them out completely is a massive effort, and leaves her vulnerable besides. She can see into a person's deepest thoughts as easily as blinking.

She's better at not doing it accidentally, though, most of the time. But it could happen, or she could be more deliberate.

If you say no, or to ask you first, I can work it so she chooses not to do whatever. \o/ (Or your character's mind might be too powerful/too alien for her!)

Can Jean sense your characters' emotions? This will be the most common; powerful emotions were always easy to feel, and she's more sensitive now.

Can Jean read your character's surface thoughts? Stuff like "man I'm hungry", "gosh X is cute", "ugh my hair sucks today".

Can Jean read deeper thoughts? The stuff they're not concentrating on consciously. Memories.

Can Jean change your characters' thoughts? This is something she tries not to do, but she will definitely slip up. It can be something like - suddenly your character doesn't want to talk to her, or suddenly they want to help someone else, or wow those violent urges have disappeared! She can also erase memories.

Can Jean control your character? Jean tries not to do this, too, but see above. She's most likely to do it in combat situations. She can make people say or do whatever she wants, basically.

Can Jean knock out your character? Jean could do this even before Phoenix; just turning the lights off in your head, for a while.

TELEKINESIS: Jean is also...very proficient at this. She can manipulate matter at a molecular level. When it comes to people, she'll mostly use it to freeze their movements or throw them at something.

I'll treat this like any physical violence; she strikes, you decide how your character reacts.

This also applies to COSMIC FLAMES.

In general, I'll ask before throwing Jean into combat situations, because she's annoyingly god tier.

Can Jean sense your characters' emotions? Yes :>

Can Jean read your character's surface thoughts? Yes, but Arthas will be really angry if he finds out. Whether she's doing it on purpose or not.

Can Jean read deeper thoughts? Yes, this is cool too. Arthas has two minds/personalities/sets of memories that find it convenient to share the same identity.

Can Jean change your characters' thoughts? Absolutely she can. Arthas has almost no mental defenses. Doing this will make Arthas 100% definitely try to kill her though :(

Can Jean control your character? See above.

Can Jean knock out your character? Yes, this is fine. Won't make him nearly as angry as changing thoughts/controlling actions.

Can Jean sense your characters' emotions? Yup!

Can Jean read your character's surface thoughts? Sure, this is cool.

Can Jean read deeper thoughts? Chromie's memories are formatted way differently than a human mind's but with a cosmic force they shouldn't be a problem, go for it.

Can Jean change your characters' thoughts? Yes, but expect to be fought.

Can Jean control your character? See above.

Can Jean knock out your character? Yup, that's cool.

Can Jean sense your characters' emotions? Yes

Can Jean read your character's surface thoughts? Yes

Can Jean read deeper thoughts? Unless Iris is offering it up, not without a struggle, and the potential for getting lost in the labyrinth, as it were. She has defenses.

Can Jean change your characters' thoughts? Not easily. If she were to try, there'd be much stronger resistance than a human could offer. Iris would fight that like a cornered rat and it wouldn't be pretty, but she could lose. We'll decide case-by-case if it ever comes up.

Can Jean control your character? ^ see above

Can Jean knock out your character? Yes, but it might give her a headache.

Esther Coleman

[personal profile] beingdifferent 2014-01-29 02:34 pm (UTC)(link)
Can Jean sense your characters' emotions?
Absolutely. Esther's an interesting one for this because her emotions usually do not match how she's acting.

Can Jean read your character's surface thoughts?
Yeah. Esther's not psychic and doesn't have the practiced mental blocks some other passengers have but she makes a noteworthy effort to keep the stuff on the "outside level" innocuous. The ugly thoughts that flit through this part are usually brief but pervasive.

Can Jean read deeper thoughts?
Not opposed to it, but if this happens I'd like to talk it out beforehand.

Can Jean change your characters' thoughts?
Once again, not opposed to it, but probably not permanently.

Can Jean control your character?
We can talk it over. :3

Can Jean knock out your character?
I'd prefer if she didn't, barring a dangerous fiasco.

Can Jean sense your characters' emotions?
Yes!

Can Jean read your character's surface thoughts?
Yes! Although since he blurts them out constantly there's not a great need to.

Can Jean read deeper thoughts?
Yes. Please do. Note: most of his memories are unhappy ones.

Can Jean change your characters' thoughts?
Haha, sure.

Can Jean control your character?
Archer would be a pretty great candidate for mind control ngl - yay developed skill set and not much convincing necessary - so yes

Can Jean knock out your character?
Yuuuuup.

Can Jean sense your characters' emotions?
Of course. Duke's got a good handle on his emotions but they're as palpable as anyone else's.

Can Jean read your character's surface thoughts?
Sure. Though if he becomes aware of this Duke will ask her not to.

Can Jean read deeper thoughts?
If she needs to dig a bit, yes.

Can Jean change your characters' thoughts?
For Duke I think I'd prefer if she didn't.

Can Jean control your character?
Again, I'd prefer not. Maybe if it comes up as part of a plot.

Can Jean knock out your character?
Yes!

Can Jean sense your characters' emotions? Yes. Like Esther, his emotions may not match the way he's acting. They might also be kind of complex.

Can Jean read your character's surface thoughts? Yes, with the same note.

Can Jean read deeper thoughts? Yes, also with the same note -- basically just talk to me about it.

Can Jean change your characters' thoughts? He will be very unhappy about it, but yes.

Can Jean control your character? Ditto.

Can Jean knock out your character? Yes.

Can Jean sense your characters' emotions? Yep

Can Jean read your character's surface thoughts? Yyyep

Can Jean read deeper thoughts? Yes... Connor habitually suppresses a lot of his feelings in favor of presenting a polite and calm front, but he has a lot going on under the surface.

Can Jean change your characters' thoughts? UHHH sure though he won't be happy about it :V

Can Jean control your character? See above

Can Jean knock out your character? Yeah he's got like no mental defenses, go nuts

Can Jean sense your characters' emotions? Absolutely.

Can Jean read your character's surface thoughts? Yes!

Can Jean read deeper thoughts? Yes.

Can Jean change your characters' thoughts? Probably but let's discuss first.

Can Jean control your character? Also a discussion first thing, but probably.

Can Jean knock out your character? That's fine!

Can Jean sense your characters' emotions? Sure!

Can Jean read your character's surface thoughts? Sure! Would be hazardous if Jean wasn't Phoenix but ¯\_(ツ)_/¯

Can Jean read deeper thoughts? Also sure! From a glance at these it should be apparent that even basic details of Bill's mind would drive a regular human mad or kill them. Like his real name, for instance, which does both.

Can Jean change your characters' thoughts? I'm going to say ask me and we'll talk about it case by case.

Can Jean control your character? Same as above.

Can Jean knock out your character? unequivocal yes because this would be hilarious.

[personal profile] not_your_weapon 2017-08-23 02:30 am (UTC)(link)
Can Jean sense your characters' emotions? Yes.

Can Jean read your character's surface thoughts? Yes; in fact, she is more than welcome to refer to things that Laura is thinking, but not saying. Because Laura knows a Jean prior to arrival (and one with far less control), she also knows that this is liable to happen.

Can Jean read deeper thoughts? Yes. If it's not in the narrative feel free to ask what those thoughts are. Laura's got a lot that's buried pretty deep but I don't see Jean having too much trouble getting to it.

Can Jean change your characters' thoughts? On a case by case basis.

Can Jean control your character? Yes, but there will most likely be negative consequences.

Can Jean knock out your character? Yes.

* If Laura has gone berserk or reverted to old programming or is otherwise killing indiscriminately, you have my explicit permission for Jean to take any power-related action that she deems necessary. There's canon precedent for "All-New" Jean to override the trigger scent, if that ever comes up, as well as to unlock a lot of Laura's deeply buried thoughts/memories, so I'm definitely game for stuff like that.

Hey! I realized I hadn't hit this up. I wanted to workshop something with you before I gave my answers. OOC, I'm pretty much always delighted to have someone read my character's thoughts, I love that sort of thing, but Ford Pines has got a metal plate in his head put there by a very kind space oracle meant to keep out mindscape entities.

The plate prevents Bill from possessing him, and it's also repelled a mind-altering ray of radiation. However, it doesn't keep Bill out of his dreams, so it's not a perfect barrier. Which of Jean's abilities do you think would get past it?
mothmansplaining: (Default)

[personal profile] mothmansplaining 2018-03-18 09:35 pm (UTC)(link)
I dig her being able to sense his emotions, absolutely. I thiiiink, to be true to the spirit of the metal plate, which is basically like a tinfoil hat for someone who isn't afraid to commit, I'm going to say it keeps his thoughts secret from brain scanning. She could get past it if she ever wanted to by telekinetically altering it to be another material, it doesn't stop that power, but as is, here's what I got:

Can Jean sense your characters' emotions? Yes

Can Jean read your character's surface thoughts? No

Can Jean read deeper thoughts? No

Can Jean change your characters' thoughts? No

Can Jean control your character? No

Can Jean knock out your character? Not psychically. Telekinetically? Absolutely.

If she ever wants to sneak around the metal plate with atomic telekinesis, just holla at me that she's doing it, and all those nos become yes-es across the board.

She is absolutely welcome to notice as quickly as you like! Ford doesn't consider it a secret and OOC I'm happy to have her know ♥
